Thank you so much for that Janice, like Heather I was very concerned that
there was more!
In Oz, only the UK edition is available and when I first picked it up, the
size (and the price!) made me wonder at the *challenge* that BDG was
setting us!

And also thanks for letting us know where the US/Canadian version of
"Part1" finishes in the UK edition, so we don't inadvertently give spoilers
- especially as the US/Canadian publication of the final 4-parts in 'Part
4' won't be out until after discussion finishes.

Cheers - Julieanne:)

Great site! All kinds of good stuff about Mary Gentle
and her books.
Thanks

Just wanted to mention, that I was adding a "Chosen One" list to the
feministsf website, based on the discussion of that topic on this list a
couple of months ago. And I also remembered Midori Snyder. Back before
MICHAEL MCBRIDE, she wrote a quartet of novels called THE QUEEN'S QUARTER:
        NEW MOON
        SADAR'S KEEP
        BELDAN'S FIRE
        and one other.

Basically a quartet of women especially strong in their
earth-air-fire-water gifts fulfill a prophecy for revolution for their
people. The interplay & alliances & dislikes between the four
protagonists is quite nice, actually. (All my books are packed in boxes
-- anybody remember the other title?)

actually, i just did some research & although it is four women, there are
only 3 novels -- the 3 i already mentioned. re: the whole series, i meant
to type the queen's quartet but had some kind of tanya huff braint melt;
but i don't know that there was a series name, even. but the four young
women are having to revolt against a queen who has refused to relinquish
her power.
