The basic thrust of the Earthseed texts is that it is important to take
control of ones own life. Change is a given and only by adapting is
survival possible. In general terms this message clearly has both ethical
and political implications, it seems to me. It's an activist philosophy
and leads the novel's protagonist to make a number of decisions with
political implications, ie. to leave her dying community and to found a new
community. Given the final premise of the texts, that it is the destiny
of Earthseed to take root among the stars, there is the clear implication
that, if the Earthseed community ever gains real political power, it will
push for an active space program.
