Diane Duane's "Tales of the Five" series describes
a land/world where everyone is required to "fulfill the
obligation," (sexually reproduce), at least once before
they are permitted to marry.

One of the main characters, Herewis, is a man who is not
only born with an unusual amount of Fire, but who learns
to focus and use it for the good of the world. His beloved
is a king-to-be, on the run in search of the way to his
thrown.

In this society, lovers and spouses are often the same sex.
Many of the characters have engaged in both different sex
love/friendship relationships and same sex love/friendship
relationships.

Nice place to visit.
