It is also worth mentioning that the longer the period of compuslory
education the greater the incentive to keep family size small. Children
are no longer a potential help to the family budget, they become instead a
burden. Thus as well as education for women, one way to bring family size
down (should you think it desirable) is to shift the economic balance.
