I just began my studies in Feminism, but I have been a fantasy reader and writer (not-yet-published) for a while. I know that there are conferences for Feminists and Women's Studies, and that there are SF and fantasy writer conferences, but are there Feminist SF and fantasy conferences? If so, does anyone know of any coming up in the next year? I am also interested in finding a good anthology of Feminist SF & F and/or critical essays. I have Erotic Universe and Women Worldwalkers (or a similar title). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. That should be very convenient for you! The theme is Feminist Science Fiction and Fantasy. There's a website but I don't have the URL written down anywhere and it's not in my Bookmarks. Sorry, maybe someone else has it? As for anthologies, take a look at Flying Cups and Saucers. I'm sure several people have mentioned it already since this is something that was read on this list last year. See if you can't find _Women of Other Worlds; Excursions through Science Fiction and Feminism_, edited by helen Merrick and Tess Williams from Australia. I haven't read it but it looks interesting. Otherwise, good luck finding what you need! I still hope that I can manage to go there once. I second Diane's recommendations for anthologies with feminist sf. Furthermore, our list mistress provides a rather comprehensive listing on her website at http://www.wenet.net/~lquilter/femsf/anthologies.html Of course, the problem thereby is to find anthologies _currently available_. By the way, on the parallel list feministsf-lit we have started today a new selection process for our book discussions. Perhaps some people on this list not yet also on the other list would like to join us. See BDG website (see my signature) for further information on this. I'm mainly into science fiction but there is also a fantasy version of this series. The science fiction volume is great. You may consider weird women, wired women (anthology by kit reed) and Sisters of the Apocalypse also by Reed. I haven't read them but plan to. I've heard good things about them. IN fact, I want to suggest this anthology for the book discussion group as soon as I check if it applies. I have it right in front of me, since I just pulled it after seeing an article in today's Washington Post about Reform Rabbis accepting same-sex marriages. There was a paragraph about how the Southern Baptist Convention recently made homosexuality the single reason for being expelled. It really struck me that it went with the first story in the collection, Keith Hartman's _Sex, Guns, and Baptists_!! If this strikes anything someone's researching/interested in, the story is accessible from the Washington Post's homepage for free (http://www.washingtonpost.com). misha On Thu, 30 Mar 2000, Tracy Mitchell wrote: > Hey Joanie: > > I just finished Bending the Landscape: an anthology of gay/lesbian science > fiction and I loved it. Other than WisCon, I'm at a loss, so I second Joanie's request and I've put it out to both the femsf and femsf-lit lists. The second part of Joanie's request was for critical essays, and I would like to ask what essays (not necessarily in anthologies) CAN'T be missed in the field. Also, what non-feminist SF has to be included in any discussion of feminist SF- both essays and fiction? thanks a love misha On Wed, 29 Mar 2000, Joanie Bassler wrote: > Greetings to all, > > I am a graduate student at CSU, Chico and am looking to enrich my educational > experience with some conferences. I am new to the field of Feminist SF & F, so regrettably I cannot return the favor...yet. :) I have another question though: Does anyone know where I can get my hands (or my web viewer) on information that might help me to design a Feminist SF & F class? Names of instructors or universities that offer the class already would even be helpful. I tried a search through Dogpile, but it wasn't very helpful. I am pushing Chico State (a tiny California College) to offer a Feminist SF & F literature class. I have a couple of Feminist Literature instructors that are willing to teach the course, but I'd like to help them in developing the course itself. And if we can show the "higher-ups" that other institutions offer the course, then it might help to convince them that we need to add this course to our curriculum.
