Hi Grete:
I'm also a "newbie" to the list and while a long-time devourer of sci fi, I
would have to say that the feminist sub-genre is a whole new universe to me
too.

Some of the fabulous fantastic/feminist works I have read include just about
anything I can get my hands on by Sherry S. Tepper; I think _Gate to Women's
County_ and _Beauty_ are her most thought-provoking.

Last summer I had fun reading Angela Carter's _Nights at the Circus_ and
_Heroes and Villians_. I'm not sure if her work would fit with our
criteria, but _Heroes and Villains_ was a disturbing postapocalyptic work.

In addition to setting up this book discussion listserve, the listowners
have created an impressive annotated bibliography which can be accessed from
the website where you originally hooked up. Check out the "Recommended
Reading List (FSF for beginners)". The books listed there are definately
"essentials". This summer I hope to get to that TBR list!

Enjoy,
Angela

I wonder how many of the readers here saw the article at Salon.com about the
uses fans are making of the ideas in that infamous ANTI-feminist series,
"Gor"? In the series, as the blurb for the article says, "men are Men and
women are slaves," and these people are not just setting up IRC channels to
play at being Goreans, but some of them are taking it into real life.

Here's the link/URL for the piece: <A

Gang"</A>

Feminist backlash lives.
