I read someone's letter about Bush giving money to Afganastan where women are imprisoned and it just made me sick with grief. I was in the process of reading Rianne Eisler's The Chalice and the Blade, and boy did Bush's funding of Afganistan make chilling sense in terms of Eisler's theory. Her book is really an absolute must read. Right after I recieved the Bush letter from FSFFU, I learned the Transbad virus that had so plagued me before was still inmy computer, so I had to wipe out my Windows and start afresh. This meant I couldn't write since all my email addresses were gone! So I just waited for a new letter. I have also read on the Web (from Christian Science Moniter News) that Bush has been doing all sorts of things that are undermining all the efforts to battle the Tabocco companies. He is science fiction horror story for real! Comments: To: feministsf@UIC.EDU MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Cynthia, Don't tease us like that! One of my favorite (and sorely missed!) things about this list is the introduction to new books. What did you put on your to-be-read list after Wiscon? Me, I just read a novella that's posted on the front page of www.scifi.com I believe the author is Linda(?) Nagata, and the story is called Goddesses. It's really interesting (but then, i really like FemSF for it's ideological bent), very multicultural, and a little pedantic -- but still engrossing. It is also 'hard' or science-y SF, which I, as a general rule, really don't get into. I don't; really want to describe the plot, because I enjoyed the surprise of finding out what it was about after only knowing the title... Has anyone else read it? While not overtly terribly feminist, I thought it was very interesting and quite a good read. It's set 75 years in the future, in which you have to belong to an organized religion to be or do anything, and our main character is a woman police detective who was forced out of her job and is scrounging around as a low level private investiagtor. Anyone else read it? Dianne Kraft -------------------------------------------------- This is the feministsf listserve, intended only for discussion of feminism and Speculative Fiction.
