I'd suggest you explore Laura Quilter's web site for ideas. Two of my
current personal favorite authors are Sherri S. Tepper and Octavia Butler.
I've almost exhausted Tepper (her stuff is incredible). I also just
finished Gearhart's Wanderground, written in the 70's--amazing and
powerful.
