Don't forget the Diva! (Sorry, but the scene with the Diva singing was my
favorite.) Anyway, the goddess (I forget her name) in the movie spent
about half of it as an androgynous waif who needs to be looked after
because she can't take care of herself, and the other half she spends
kicking the bad guys (and they were all guys) collective asses. So, even
though she's a goddess, she is still portrayed as someone who needs the
protection of men (i.e. the Priests and Bruce Willis' character.) I agree
that there is little place for women in this story, and I would add that
the ones who are there are not the most positive portrayals, either.
